Number six ranked City High soccer takes on Jefferson at Kingston Stadium. Heading into the game, City High boasts a record of 12-1-3, most recently picking up a win and a tie in a tournament in Davenport over the weekend. The tie came against number eight, Ankeny, 1-1, and the win came against Davenport North 8-0. Wahlert was also taken down on the teams senior night on Tuesday, crushing them 5-0.
“We’re coming off a lot of some good wins, and I’m prepared for what the future holds for us. I’m hoping for a possible rematch with Johnston in the state tournament,” Gabriel Egeland ‘25 said.
The biggest storyline heading into this game is that Captain Jack Dancer has the potential to break the school’s all-time scoring record, only being one goal away with 20 on the season so far. He tied the record on senior night against Wahlert on a penalty kick. The record is currently held/tied by Fernando Pecheco, a former City High coach.
“Pretty excited about it, but I’m not focusing on it. At the end of the day, our goal is to win the game, and the scoring record would just be a bonus,” Dancer said.
The Little Hawks are the one seed in their sub-state and will face the winner of Davenport Central vs Dubuque Hempstead next week. All sub-state games will be played at City High.
“We are very excited about the end of the season and the upcoming postseason games. We have had success in the regular season against a lot of these teams, so hopefully we can continue our momentum. We still remember how our season ended last season, and we use that as motivation for this year,” Jayden Le ‘26 said.
