The Nike Zoom Rotational 6 is the best indoor and outdoor throwing shoe of 2025. The two other popular throwing shoes are the Velaasa Stones, and the Adidas Throwstars. None beat the Nike Zoom Rotational 6.
The Velaasa Stone is a newer shoe to the market with a very high price point. The quality is pretty good, but where the shoe lacks is in its speed. The shoe has lots of small bumps on the bottom of the shoe that make more friction and makes outdoor throwing almost impossible. I wore these shoes for the freshman season and after my first outdoor meet I had to make the switch to Nike. When trying to complete the spin I found my feet would get caught behind leading to poor throws.
The other popular throwing shoe is the Adidas Throwstars, a cheap introduction shoe but with the cheap price comes cheap quality. The shoe has a wider build which leads to a loose fit. With the loose fit there is way less stability which can lead to ankle injuries. Along with a loose fit the shoe has very poor build quality and falls apart quickly. The sole of the shoe tends to shred and holes begin to form in the sole after only a couple weeks of throwing.
The Nike Zoom Rotational 6 is the middle price point shoe of the three. The shoe has a high quality build but where it wins is in the sole. The sole is a very polished smooth bottom which helps with a fast smooth spin and great foot rotation. The shoe has a tight fit that begins to mold to your foot after a couple days of using the shoe. With a Velcro strap on the top and laces the shoe stays snug fit to your foot. The shoe also has good quality that will last multiple seasons.
If you’re looking for a cheap beginning shoe the Adidas Throwstar isn’t a bad option. But if you’re looking into getting a shoe to improve your throws, last a long time, and fit well the Nike Zoom Rotational 6 is the perfect shoe.
