The City High Boys swim team’s last dual meet of the season was held on January 20th at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center. The boys’ swim team competed against Jefferson High School, and both the JV and Varsity teams won. At the swim meet, they celebrated the 2026 graduates on the team.
“Watching this group of seniors develop as athletes, leaders, and swimmers has been an amazing experience, and they have just been a lot of fun to coach,” says Assistant Coach Michael Dankert. He has been working with the team for 3 years now.
The Little Hawk swim team is led by seniors Philip Berry-Stoelze, Braydon Calonder, and Graeme Thomas, who have all remained with the program throughout their entire high school careers and co-captained the team together this season. Benjamin Hacker and Orlando Plum-Cuba joined the team in their sophomore year. Completing the lineup is Lukas Schoen, who joined the team for his first and final season.
“The senior class sets an example for our team, and they show what leadership looks like and what being a teammate looks like. They have left a big impact on all of their younger teammates,” says swim team manager Malorie James ‘27.
The City Boys swim team won with a score of 98 to 72 against Jefferson.
Benjamin Hacker is a senior who has swum on the team for 3 years. When asked what his favorite part of being on the swim team is, Benjamin said, “I like inspiring other athletes and swimmers.”
Having concluded their final home meet of the season, the team is now shifting its focus toward championship meets. Their next meet will take place at the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) championships, where they will compete at the brand new Cedar Falls Community Natatorium.
