This Wednesday, February 18, the City High bands are boarding buses to Central Dewitt High School. They’ll be excused for all seven periods, leaving as soon as school starts and returning at the end of seventh period.

“Mr. Kowbel and I are very much looking forward to this Wednesday for our performances at the All-Iowa Concert Band Festival once again this year,” said Aaron Ottmar, one of the band directors, in an email.

In addition to playing, they’ll also be attending clinics and watching other bands perform.

“It is truly a wonderful opportunity for us to learn from some of the best conductors from across the country and their feedback is so valuable and beneficial before our upcoming concert next week and for the rest of the school year as well,” Ottmar continued.

Upcoming events for the band program are the Liberty Jazz Festival on the 21, the Indianola Jazz Encounter on the 22, and the Coe College Jazz Summit on the 27. These lead up to their annual Chicago Jazz Trip from the 28-29. The Mid-Winter Band Concert will interrupt the jazz season on the 25.
