Elections for the Student Senate Treasurer and Secretary will be held at the next Student Senate meeting on Oct. 7. This year’s elections will be slightly different because both roles will now be available to juniors, not only seniors and the position of diplomat was removed.
“These positions are really important for almost everything that Student Senate does, and it’s really important that we have people that are committed throughout the whole year,” Alma Bhandary-Narayanan ‘26 said. “We wanted to also let juniors run, because in previous years, we’ve sometimes had problems with senioritis.”
The treasurer handles the Student Senate’s funds and keeps track of things like club grants.
“A pretty unique thing about student senate is that it is the only profitable club and we have a budget surplus, every year, pretty much,” Toe Collins ‘26 said. “So that is an important position, definitely much more so in Student Senate than any other club, because we actually have money.”
The secretary takes meeting minutes and manages attendance.
“The attendance [keeping track] really is important, for the past at least two years, there’s been a problem when the elections come around, with us having gaps in our information about who attended,” Toe Collins ‘26 said. “We want to enforce the ⅓ meeting policy.”
