Prospective voters and college students gathered in the Pedmall yesterday to listen to a speech made by ex-presidential candidate and political commentator Herman Cain. Cain, who has endorsed Republican nominee Mitt Romney, is in the process of traveling around the country as part of his “Fall Truth Tour.” The tour is designed to drum up support for Romney and other conservative candidates in swing states like Iowa, Michigan, and North Carolina.

Cain cited Romney’s business experience as the main source of his credibility as a candidate.

“Romney understands what it takes to run large institutions. He has vision and strategy, and will surround himself with the right people who are able to execute” he said.

Cain also spoke directly to students, outlining an economic vision for young people.

“This is not about being a Democrat or Republican. It’s about recognizing what’s going on in America today. [young people] have an opportunity as students and voters to be part of the solution. Fifty percent of students will graduate and not be able to find work, so you have to understand what’s holding the economy back: too much legislation,” he said in his address.

Cain also outlined possible solutions for rising tuition costs.

“Too many students are [paying for university] at the rate they charge. Students need to look for an alternative. That’s not a nice answer but its a true answer. Don’t drop out, but talk to your siblings about the cost,” he said.
