The City High orchestras held their last concert of the 2025-2026 school year on Wednesday night. For the seniors, this was their last time performing in Opstad Auditorium, many of whom have been playing their instrument for 8 or more years.
The Symphony orchestra, band, and choir performed the iconic Star Wars score, “The Phantom Menace,” composed by John Williams. The piece features the Flag Parade, Anakin’s Theme, and Duel of the Fates. The Symphony performed Phantom Menace alongside Argent Edge, composed by Doug Spata.
“The energy of the concert was the best I have experienced during the rehearsal process. We were all just so excited and having so much fun,” Clara Meehan ‘26, Principal Cellist, said. “I’ll definitely miss the relationships and friendships I’ve made in the program. Playing music with an ensemble is such a special thing.”
In addition to performances by Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and the band, graduating seniors were also recognized, and awards were presented to members of Symphony Orchestra. Clara Meehan, Abigail Sigafoose, and Raphael Etuma were all awarded and recognized for their dedication, commitment, and leadership within the orchestra program during their time at City High.
“Our concert was one of our very best run throughs, and for being that last concert of the year, it was really special,” Gemmas Escandell-Tapias ‘27 said, “I’ll definitely miss the seniors so much, especially Clara, she has been the best concert master.”
This concert marked the end of another successful year of City High Orchestra, and a closing of a very important chapter for many of the graduating seniors who have made such an impact on the music program during their time at City High. The concert helped to celebrate the community that the orchestra program has fostered and the many relationships built over the past four years.
“I’ll miss everyone and the special experience that playing in an ensemble is and we just have so much fun here and we’re all friends. It’s so much fun,” Meehan said.
