The girls’ golf team competed in their last meet of the season on Wednesday, May 20th. The 18-hole golf meet was held at Gardner Golf Course in Marion, Iowa. The Little Hawks competed against teams from across the region, placing 7th overall with a score of 405.
“I had so much fun watching everybody come together, more this season than ever. I think this is the most connected our team has been between varsity and JV. My favorite part of this meet was playing with really nice girls, being familiar with this course, and being able to use that to my advantage to try to play well. Specifically, my favorite memory of this season was birdying a hole. I didn’t realize it was par five. I shot a four on it, and I was just excited to make par. I didn’t realize it was a birdie. I didn’t realize it was a par five until someone’s grandpa told me nice birdie. Then I realized I shot a four on a par five, so that was pretty sick,” Emory Anzelc ‘26 said.
During the season, the team’s score dropped 62 strokes from their first 18-hole meet to their last. Sophomore Tess Anzelc ’28 was a Valley Division honorable mention for the all-conference team. All Conference selections are based on three MVC 18-hole meets, the Super Meet, and two Divisional Meets. The scores of each player from all three meets are added together.
“I didn’t let the bad shots get to me, and I tried to keep playing regardless of what happened on the course. I gained the skill from a lot of trial and error and persisting through the bad days,” Anzelc ‘28 said.
The girls’ golf team started practicing indoors in February at City High. They plan to play over the summer to keep practicing their skills and come into the next season with a swing.
