Concert Choir listens while composer Craig Hella Johnson answers questions

On Tuesday, March 19, City High Concert Choir had the opportunity to meet over Zoom with composer Craig Hella Johnson. Johnson has composed many pieces including Considering Matthew Shepard, a piece that the choir performed for their Masterworks Concert earlier this year.

“We were so fortunate to be able to hear Craig Hella Johnson speak to Concert Choir today. His intense humanity, deep love, and vulnerability showed through every word. He gave us great insights about Considering Matthew Shepard, but also about what it means to be human,” Choir Director Tyler Hagy said.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions about the thought process and creativity behind composing Considering Matthew Shepard

“He is very well spoken, and it was very inspirational to listen to someone who has stayed so dedicated to a project for over a decade,” Diego Loria-Eivins ‘24 said.
