A Music Impacts Community (MIC) event took place on December 4 at 5.30 pm at the James theater. The MIC is a student-led nonprofit music program for young local musicians to help “pursue their dreams.”
“Everyone did a little bit to make sure the programming is good,” Rowyn Maas ‘26, the MIC’s treasurer, said.
Since its creation last year, the MIC has hosted events in the City High music wing, Opstad Auditorium, and at the James theater. Proceeds from each concert are donated to local causes.
“As president [of the MIC], it was my job to schedule meetings,” Jesse Varner ‘26 said. “I was the one who came up with the ideas, and then usually the group told me that the idea was possible and that the idea was not possible.”
The MIC’s leadership consists of 8 students, including Gideon Levine ‘26 and Silas Gollnick ‘26, who will be attending music school next year.
“All of the performances were amazing, but I’m a big jazz guy myself, so the first performance [was] probably [my favorite],” Varner said.
In total, there were four performances, including songs from The Beatles and Wicked, as well as original songs made by the artists performing .
“I really liked Sarah’s performance,” Maas said..
The MIC is planning to host another event at the James in the near future. Any Little Hawks interested in participating in the next MIC event can apply using this form.
