Sentimental Journey is a donation program to get MP3 players for several retirement homes. The MP3 players are used to help Alzheimer’s, and Dementia patients whose cognitive abilities steadily deteriorate over time forcing them to be more reliant on others for care, making them less social, and disconnected from their environment.

A Dementia patient in the David Geffen School of Medicine was given an MP3 player that had a list of music that was popular when the patient was younger. After thirty minutes of listening to the music the person who was usually withdrawn seemed happy and socialized with the people caring for him. He also became more cooperative and less agitated.

A City High parent has set to work on this donation drive has contacted City High to see if students in the school will help collect gently used MP3 players for local retirement homes who will be glad to receive them for their residents. Several local retirement facilities are willing to accept all donations collected by City High: Legacy Gardens, Windmill Manor, and Oaknoll.

From March 31st to May 1st the donation box will be located in the City High main office. Gently used music players   that have a matching fire-wire and charging cable should be placed in a plastic zip-lock bag prior to donation.
