No Healthcare Means More Sickness

No Healthcare Means More Sickness

The new year tends to bring many things, and with the passing of the election season there will be a new president, with many new ideas. Obama Care is a health plan that covers families and individuals medically. As of 2015, there were 11.4 million individuals of 18+ who were uninsured, and Obama Care was an attempt to continuously decrease this number.  However, Congress, currently ruled by Republicans, wants to get rid of this healthcare system and while it has not realized how it is going to change the healthcare system in this country, many people across the United States could lose their healthcare, which is ridiculous. Since Obama Care began, the percent of people that are uninsured dropped from 13.1% to 9.1%; I highly disagree with this decision to retract it.

If this repeal were to happen, families who are currently covered could be put at risk and pre-existing illnesses could become more problematic with the loss of medical insurance to cover people suffering from them. Obama Care was made to be affordable for the American people and its health care costs, if retracted, people may not be able to cover the costs of other healthcare providers or their medical bills. This retraction would mainly affect the adolescents and elderly because many adolescents are on their parents’ health care and don’t have their own medical insurance, so if their parents lose it, then that means they fall suite to losing it as well. Elderly would be affected because many are retired and don’t work so they won’t be able to afford paying medical costs, many millennials that don’t already have health care may not be able to afford it if Obama Care is taken away and private healthcare is the only option.

President Trump’s plan is to potentially replace this much needed program with one called “Trump Care”, which would create many limitations and restraints. We as Americans need to think: what would our health care be to us with Trump Care?
