Today, Principle Bacon sent out an email announcing that the date of the “Bash on Bates” has been pushed back from May 8 to May 15. The event will remain from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Bates Field.

The email cited that the event was pushed back for a variety of reasons.

“The Student Senate team felt like this date worked better for the overall student body,” Bacon said.

Pushing back the date of Bash at Bates will also prevent it from intersecting with Ramadan. Ramadan is a period of fasting from sunrise to sunset observed during the ninth month of the Muslim year. Before the change, posts were circulating on social media urging people to boycott the prom in solidarity with Muslim students. It is possibly for this reason, among others, that the event was rescheduled.

“We’re really looking forward to this special event,” Bacon said. “Many great plans are coming together to make this a special night for our students.”
