Three City High seniors and three alumni are all finalists for the National Scholastic Press Association’s Story of the Year awards. This award honors the best journalists for school publications across the country. Written in teams of two, these three stories are all finalists in different categories.

The video Teachers Answer Relationship Questions is up for the 2016 Broadcast Story of the Year. It was one of only 3o videos nominated for this award. This video was created by senior Sarah Smith, and former Little Hawk Caroline Brown. Sarah Smith is currently an Executive Editor of Features in The Little Hawk this year, and was Web Editor last year.

Celeste Chadwick ’17 and Madeline Deninger ’17 are finalists for the Feature Story of the Year for their article Generation XXX, and former Little Hawks Claire Noack and Innes Hicsasmaz are finalists for Sports Story of the Year for their story on the girl’s cross country coach, Runner with a Cause. Each is competing with only nine other stories. Deninger is currently a reporter for the Little Hawk.

Jim Geerdes ’17, the Sports Editor of the newspaper, says, “They all worked really hard last year. I’m happy all their hard work has paid off.”

The winners will be announced on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Indianapolis.
