Girls XC Bonds During Freshman Wake Up

Despite early morning practices and long endurance runs, cross country is always fun, especially if the people surrounding you make you feel comfortable.

On Friday August 25th, the seniors in girls XC planned the freshmen wake up. This activity consists in that all the seniors get together and go wake up the freshmen girls at 4 A.M.

Because of the huge group of people, they did groups of 2 or 3 seniors with a bunch of freshmen.

“We blew a horn to wake them up and they had only 5 minutes to get ready. We blindfolded them and went near the lake to play games,” Sarah Nunez ’18 said.

“They woke me up at 5:30 am and we went to Hy-Vee, we got a bunch of weird food, one of the best ones was garlic jam with Easy Cheese. We drove to Terry Trueblood lake and we ate it all,” said Katherine Geerdes ’21.

When all the separate activities had ended, they reunited all together in Village Inn to have breakfast at 7 am.

“At the end, you get really close with the freshmen. Now, they are all my friends, and usually I won’t have the chance to be friends with them because you don’t have the same classes, but now it’s different” said Sarah Nunez ’18.

“I would like to do it in my senior year,” said Katherine Geerdes ’21.
