Pearson Education recently released a short promotional video. It delivered a message that featured students speaking of the new tools needed in the classroom. Many of the students, however, were City High students, and much of the video itself was filmed at City High.
“My mom just came up to me and told me that they were filming this video,” Madison Davenport ‘15, said. She was featured in the video several times. “It sounded fun so I went along with it. They just fed us the lines and we read them to the camera, it was really easy!”
Jacob Buatti ‘14 was also featured in the video. In his scenes he was holding a basketball, despite his City High Boys Swimming jacket visible in the shot. “They just wanted someone ‘sporty’ so I told them I used to play basketball, which I did.” Buatti said. “Then they just gave me the lines and I read them. It was kind of awkward because I just kept tossing the ball back and forth in my hands the whole time.”
The video, produced by Pearson, spoke of the changing world of education and addressed possible modern solutions to the problems, more specifically, technology. The usefulness of technology in the classroom is an issue widely debated across the world, with many points being made from both ends of the argument. At City High a one-to-one ratio of portable computers to students in currently being pursued, with the project being spearheaded by Terry Coleman, a member of the tech committee and City High Assistant Principal.
“Our dream is to hopefully have a one-to-one ratio of iPads, or other mobile device, to students in 3 years,” Coleman said.
