City High boys and girls cross country kicked off the start of their seasons with the annual time trials race at the U of I course on Thursday, August 23rd. Brook Price ‘13 finished first for the boys team with a time of 17:05.
“I think time trials went well. The times might’ve been slow, but that’s because it was so ridiculously hot,” Price said. “Overall I’m impressed by the team’s effort.”
Ellen Carman ‘14 also finished first for her team with a time of 15:55.
“I didn’t PR last season and I want to this year,” Carman said. “As far as the team goes, I want to get on the balcony at the state meet and make the top three. Last year we got eighth at state so this season is all about restoring that tradition.”
The boys team has an identical goal of placing in the top three, although it hasn’t been done since 2004 when they placed third. As for Price’s individual aspirations, he aims higher.
“I want to win state,” said Price.
