Teachers are supposed to be teaching students, but for Martin Luna this was not the case.

“He has inspired many people and will continue to do so,” Coach Sabers said, “Knowing Martin has made me a better person, teacher, and coach.”

Luna has even inspired students to band together to help support him during his battle with cancer. On March 30th, a large group showed up in the gym with posters and music to surprise Martin.

With in the past few days multiple fundraisers have been started including a account and a t-shirt sale with the money going all toward Martin and his family. Even the football staff have created a event in Martin’s honor.

“Martin Luna and his family are dealing very courageously with Martin’s cancer and could use some additional support,” Coach Sabers said.

A Benefit Dinner for Martin will taking place in the City High cafeteria. The event will start at 5:00 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m.. Pizza and cookies will be served and at around 6:15, a brief program will take place. The dinner costs five dollars per person and all proceeds will go to Martin and his family.

Martin Luna has been battling a unique type of cancer: a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor. He has had 8 surgeries, 8 cycles of chemotherapy, and 7 weeks of radiation. The money raised will help his family pay off the cost of the medical assistance.
