Fall & Winter Must-Haves

Fall+%26+Winter+Must-Haves

Lily O'Brien, Reporter

As the cold weather approaches, I ask myself the same question every year: What do I wear to stay warm while still looking cute?

With 70’s style coming back and neutrals becoming more prominent, your style could range anywhere from grey sweaters or leather pants to rust colored suede or corduroy. Especially with high school kids on a low budget, the challenge to find quality, warm, and inexpensive clothing becomes twice as hard.

So what should you have in your closet this fall and winter?

Here’s a list of my top ten must-haves:

  1. Jeans: leather, coated, ripped, crop, flare, skinny

Jeans are all the hype. With lighter and more neutral denim colors coming into the scene, make sure you don’t miss out on cream, black, and white jeans. Torn jeans are a great accent to any outfit because they add to the flare and casualness. Leather and coated jeans are great with sweaters, especially oversized ones. Leather jeans show sophistication and add glam to any ensemble while coated jeans are a way to get a similar look without the price. With the 70s making a reappearance in wardrobes this fall, flare jeans are gaining popularity. High-waisted is also a great way to go because they slim your shape and cover up any bloating.

  1.  Bomber Jacket

Bomber jackets are the thing to have this fall. They come in any color, any style, they can be easily layered, and they’re lightweight: what’s not to love?

  1.  Chelsea boots

They’re versatile and look great with skinny jeans, tights or dresses. Add some warm socks and you’re set for the cold weather. You really can’t go wrong.

  1. Vintage Sweaters

Whether it be crazily patterned or a simple grey, vintage sweaters are a fun way to bump up your style this fall/winter and keep you warm. They also tie into the retro 70s that are coming back into style.

  1. Suede

Rust, bronze, and brown suede have gained popularity over the past few months and you can find the fabric in just about any style. Whether is be a top, skirt, dress, or shoes, suede will keep you in style.

  1. Turtlenecks

They’re back! We all hated them as kids but they’re becoming a prominent and warm piece to add to your wardrobe this fall. Make sure you keep them neutral and wear them as accent pieces (unless it’s a turtleneck sweater).

  1.  (Faux) Leather jacket

Authentic leather is too expensive to buy straight out of pocket but faux gives you the same look for less. Fitted, cropped, or detailed are all great guidelines to finding the perfect jacket. They’re also great for layering with turtlenecks or jeans.

  1. Long Coats

Trench coats are also making an appearance this fall and winter. They’re good for staying warm and covering up when the temperature drops.

  1. Structured Crossbody Bags

Neutral colored bags like black or beige are especially good for fall and winter with neutral colors being a trend. Structured bags add sophistication and sharpness to any outfit while crossbody bags are easy to carry.

  1. Thick Belt

Whether it be to hold up your jeans or to belt a dress, thicks belts can be worn with anything and when worn right can be a stylish touch on any outfit.
