Despite plummeting temperatures and the threat of a huge snowstorm, over a hundred people showed up in the City High gym on Thursday to support the Little Hawks. Taking on Dubuque Senior at both the JV and Varsity levels, the team was ready to make a strong showing on Senior Night.

“It’s great to see everyone grow up in the program and to see all the younger kids joining,” senior Kevin Berg said.

In his, and City High’s, final dual meet of the season, Berg won his round against Dubuque Senior’s Dylan Dean 2-0. After defeating his opponent however, City realized that Dean had entered himself at the wrong weight, and as a result Berg had just won against an athlete in a higher weight class than himself.

“The Senior kid made a huge mistake and went out in the wrong weight, but you know what, someone still went out and beat him anyway,” Coach Cory Connell said. “I thought, ‘wait, this guy’s way bigger, what is going on?’ But Berg got to wrestle, so the mistake was great, and he did awesome.”

After JV had finished, City took a moment to honor the senior wrestlers, who were presented with their parents. Among those were Kevin Berg, Michael Santoro, Will Flack, Ryan Ceynar, Kyle Hefley, Brandon Lalla, Joe Ring, and Jacob Murray.

After impressive performances from Hefley, Ring, and Ceynar, City took the win for Varsity with a final score of 59-18.
